Like all good recipes, I learned this one many years ago and have no idea who originally invented it. However, among my family and friends it is still known as Lisha’s Lethal Lemonade. Not technically a Chinese herbal remedy, it has an advantage over most Chinese recipes in that you probably have all the ingredients in your kitchen.

Sadly, this lemonade probably cannot cure a cold or flu, but it can give you a much needed boost when you need to prepare a meal for your kids, deal with a crisis, or just want to remember what it is like to breath through your nose.
Ingredients:
One lemon per sick person in household
One large spoonful of honey, likewise
One cup boiling water per patient
Crushed hot pepper, as much as you can stand
Optional: Fresh or candied ginger root (if fresh cut into thin slices)
Instructions:
Juice lemons, mix fresh lemon juice together with honey, water, hot pepper, ginger.
Let cool until barely drinkable, serve.
Strain the hot pepper out for little kids.
If you put candied ginger in, leave it at the bottom of the pitcher until you’ve finished the lemonade, then eat it (you may want to make sure to put in enough for everyone to have a piece).
Try not to gag on the hot pepper.
Prepare the meal/pick up the kids/write the blog post and then rest, you’ve earned it.
