“I always get a migraine after my in-laws come for shabbat,” she said. “Could the migraines be caused by stress?”
“Well, that is certainly one possibility, but any number of other factors could be involved. Maybe the trigger is a spice in the food they bring. Or an ingredient in something special you only make when they come over. Maybe it’s something environmental you’re exposed to when you pick them up at the bus station. Or you could be allergic to the fabric softener they use. Maybe the problem is tension in your neck muscles after sleeping in the spare room so they can use your bed. Or a combination of some or all of the above,” I didn’t say, because I’ve met her in-laws.
“Yes, it’s probably the stress,” I answered.
But it is important to keep the other possibilities in mind….
